CAPA College wows audiences with exceptional performances at Move It 2022

On Friday 11th March CAPA College returned to the ExCeL London for Move It 2022 – and it was the best year yet!

Taking place over three days in early Spring, Move It is the world’s biggest dance event. It brings together representatives from across the dance community – performers, choreographers, students, conservatoires and retailers – to celebrate all things dance in one action-packed weekend.

Stand 426 featured CAPA College and our in-house performance company Momentum with impressive theatre rigging, 360 degree displays, a giant illuminated ‘CAPA College’ star and awe-inspiring digital displays – proving a big hit with college students and visitors alike.

As well as stands, stalls and shops, Move It is celebrated for its impressive range of classes and workshops and CAPA College was well represented with a range of high-energy classes delivered by the college’s top team of industry experts and teachers including Amelia Rose Fielding, Alex Bowen, Keith Luke Gillott and Tom Tindall.  From flair-filled Latin Jazz and Under-16s Commercial to a Breakin’ & Release-based Contemporary masterclass and a tribute to the musical sensation ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’, all of the classes were jam-packed with young dancers. As always the feedback from these classes was fantastic and the smiles that emanated from the studios spoke for themselves.

The piece de resistance of Move It is always its phenomenal performance opportunities. With two venues on offer – Main Stage and the Showcase Theatre – performance slots are awarded on the quality of the choreography and presentation skills. CAPA College’s Momentum were thrilled to be allocated the maximum three performances on the Main Stage (one each day Friday-Sunday) and four in the Showcase Theatre. It was then over to our talented team to illustrate exactly what CAPA College has to offer…

In the Showcase Theatre our Dance, Drama and Performing Arts students offered a dynamic fusion of song and dance with an original arrangement of some of Christina Aguilera’s iconic songs. This beautiful portrayal of strength, unity and female empowerment left audiences in awe before Momentum burst back onto the Showcase Theatre with ‘Let it ROCK!’. Inspired by the musical ‘Rock of Ages’, this electric performance featured powerhouse vocals. The performances were sleek and dynamic, a real credit to the college. Congratulations to everyone involved!

First up on the Main Stage Alex Bowen and Keith Luke GIllott showcased their exceptional choreography skills with Mr Pinstripe. This super stylish, super slick performance combined the attack of Jazz, the explosion of Street, the beauty of Ballet and rhythm of Tap. The students burst onto the stage in an array of pinstripe tutus and suits alongside their signature bright red shoes and kicked, flipped and leaped their way through the routine. Wow! What a feel-good performance.

On Saturday, the cast of On Your Feet choreographed by West End stars Amelia-Rose Fielding and Alex Bowen took to the stage. Crowds gathered to see the infectious energy and spirit of Momentum in this Latin infused masterpiece as the students transported audiences to the world of rhythm and funk with the music of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. We loved it! Well done everyone.

Last, but not least, Momentum Originals 1998 – the award-winning dance performance company of CAPA College with an impressive 24 year legacy – presented a brand new, explosive, high impact and completely original work. Choreographed by the sensational Ricky Jinks with music by Sam Smith, Momentum hit the stage with an unforgettable performance. Sleek, stylish & so smooth, Momentum proved that they were back and better than ever before! Congratulations to our performers – you were a real credit to Momentum Dance and CAPA College.

Special mention must also be made to our wonderful CAPA College alumni who came out in droves to support their alma mater. It was so lovely to see you all and we’re very proud of the fantastic performers, creatives, designers and technicians that you have become.
