Pastoral Support, Wellbeing and Safeguarding

At CAPA College caring for one another is in everything that we do. We have a dedicated student welfare team who are committed to the physical and mental health of our students and the vast majority of staff have first aid and mental health first aid training.

Here are just some of the measures that we have in place to promote and ensure mental and physical health of students:

Helping students to build good wellbeing habits

  • Every day starts with a physical workout
  • Students receive a tutorial programme that facilitates self-reflection
  • Lunchtime menu options that provide great nutrition
  • A flexible timetable that caters to the needs of all students

Creating a positive wellbeing culture in college

  • Students Pastoral Support Takeover – a group run by students, for students. Recent topics have included LGBTQ+ issues, sexual harassment, coming out of lockdown and supporting family members
  • All staff and students speak to one another with respect
  • Open door policy – can always speak to any member of staff including class teachers, your form tutor, Pathway Leader, DSL or non-teaching staff

Making sure students have access to help

  • Dedicated student welfare team
  • Access to online or face-to-face support
  • Signposting to external help and support
  • Links on MyDay for out of hours support

“We start every day with physical exercise that gets your heart pumping and ready for the day. It helps to calm your mind and get you focused!”

Luella, Year 2 Student

“I went to the LGBTQ+ Student Pastoral Takeover. It’s such a controlled and mature environment where some people come to share their experiences and some want to sit back and listen. It’s so nice knowing that everyone is supported.”

Jamie, Year 2 Student

“If you have a problem, you feel comfortable speaking to any member of staff. Whether it’s about university applications, exam stress or something going on at home. You can also click the link on MyDay if you feel nervous asking for help.”

Isla, Year 2 Student
