Based in Wakefield, Momentum Dance showcases the extraordinary abilities of gifted and talented young dancers from across the North of England.
Established in 1998, Momentum Dance is one of the longest running youth dance companies in the UK. Its members, all aged 16-19, are accomplished performers and choreographers with specialisms ranging from ballet, urban and jazz to breakdancing, hip-hop and street.
Momentum Dance are known for their breathtaking, ground-breaking choreography and flawless execution. They are regular Main Stage performers at Move It, U.Dance and Can You Dance? and have also appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Off-Broadway and as semi–finalists on Sky 1’s Got to Dance.
Recent performances have included ‘Under His Eye’, an all-female narrative dance based on the themes, characters and narrative interests of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale; ‘A Series of Edges’, a neo-classical quartet that explores the contours and capabilities of human expression; and ‘Speak Easy’, a high-energy tribute to the 1940s which combines jazz, jive, lindy-hop, street and commercial dance.
