“Participating in New Views has been the highlight of CAPA College for me and has shown me how much I love writing giving me the encouragement to continue to do so. I’d never done anything like this before and so I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to create something that means so much to me. It’s also helped me realise I love writing ALMOST as much as acting.

    Careers

The Life After CAPA College programme is embedded within our curriculum, preparing students through practical and theoretical lessons, internal and external performance projects; and encounters with a range of Higher Education providers, employers and professional artists. All students are provided with unique, tailored support from a range of independent artists and specialist teaching staff, resulting in the vast majority of our students progressing on to the top Arts conservatoires and universities. Our specialist, high-quality Arts education enables students to pursue their aspirations. We are incredibly proud of the success of our alumni who are working in a variety of roles in the professional industry.

Every Student at CAPA College receives:

Careers in the Curriculum
  • Timetabled lessons taught by the CAPA College teaching staff which includes ex and current Arts professionals with links to a variety of companies and organisations.
  • Theory lessons designed to promote independent learning, develop artistic voice and appreciate small and large-scale professional work.
  • Intensive performance projects which replicate a professional working environment. Led by teaching staff and guest industry professionals, these allow students to work collaboratively and focus on their chosen specialism as a performer, creative, designer or production artist.
  • Weekly CONNECT tutorials covering roles within the Arts industry, arts-specific labour market information and guest speakers.
  • REFLECT tutorials which prepare students for higher education or professional work, including student finance, budgeting and communication with employers and professional artists.
  • Life After CAPA College lessons to guide students through their research of routes into the industry and complete applications for conservatoires and higher education providers and apprenticeships.
  • Mock Audition week allowing students to tailor their audition to best prepare them for their next steps, offering personalised feedback and a real-life experience of auditions and interviews.
Inspirational Work Experience
  • Regular external opportunities for students to perform at external venues, tour and perform alongside professional artists and create their own original work. Recent performances include Sanctuary with Red Ladder Theatre Company, the Tate Modern and appearing on the BBC in the National Lottery’s Big Night at the Musicals.
  • Work experience including: managing and running front of house for public performances, facilitating workshops for our CHARGE outreach programme and leading workshops in primary and secondary schools across Yorkshire.
Masterclass Week

Masterclass Week invites conservatoires, universities, employers, apprenticeship providers and a plethora of professional artists and companies to inspire our students and give them an insight in the Performing Arts sector. This unique opportunity consists of masterclasses, audition material and portfolio support, seminars and Q&As; with students receiving numerous encounters during the week.

Masterclass Week 2025 included:

Guidance
  • Regular 1-2-1 meetings with tutors to discuss career routes and aspirations.
  • Open door policy encouraging students to seek advice from the Principal, Pathway Leaders and subject-specific teaching staff.
  • Life After CAPA College Seminars available for parent/carers, students, Teachers and Employers, for an open discussion about program details and possible next steps, including detailed student finance advice.
Equal Opportunities
We acknowledge that a handful of our students may wish to pursue further study or employment in alternative, non-arts-based subjects. They are supported equally with unique support and advice during their studies, allowing them to connect with employers and apprenticeship providers in various sectors.

The success of the careers programme is measured by collecting data on student destinations, long-term career achievements and parent/carer feedback. We also work closely with The Careers Enterprise Company, completing termly reports to evaluate our provision and ensure we are meeting the Gatsby Benchmarks. The information outlined above will be reviewed in September 2026
